Fresh applesauce is one fall treat that I look forward to. I make it every year and enjoy it for breakfast.
I'm going to let photos do the talking. The recipe follows.
I talked to this apple tree when I passed it on snowshoes. It was hoping for Spring as much as I was.
Apples blossoms in the Spring-time herald good things to come...
During the picking season so many apples end up on the ground!
So beautiful!!!
Apples, allspice, cloves, ginger, honey and cinnamon and some water. So simple.
Ready to eat!
Homemade Apple Sauce
15 cooking apples (Cortland, Macoun, Macintosh, etc)
8 oz water
1/4 cup honey
2 oz orange liquer
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp minced ginger
1 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp cloves
Core, peel and slice the apples. Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer until the apples break apart. Add more water if needed to
allow apples to break down. Let cool and enjoy.
Cheers!
Jason

Hi,
your photos are breathtaking, make me wish I was in the countryside.
Anna
great pics about apples!
Great photos and I love the way you told the story throught them. Living in California, it is hard for me to imagine having to use snowshoes. Enjoy the rest of your week.
For a second there I thought I was at my place!!! Loved the walk through your countryside, and the first photo made me feel/hear the crunching of snow!
I am no longer feeling sorry for you regarding your applesauce breakfast the other day, either!!!
My best, Pam
LOVE making homemade applesauce, and I so prefer the chunky to the smooth kind. Wonderful pictures, esp the one of the blossom is really beautiful.
Love the photos, it makes me wistful seeing the apples on the ground. I'm mentioning your wonderful blog in my post tomm.

I love your photos and your applesauce recipe sounds delicious! I'm headed to an apple orchard this morning and can't wait to make some with an old family recipe :)
I posted this right before I went to bed last night around 11 PM. I woke up to 6 comments!!! What a way to start the day. Thank you all so much.
I'll be making this recipe about once a week now with some of it going in the freezer for later season enjoyment.
On a sad note we will be losing some of the orchards right on our street to development, including the tree in the winter picture. I haven't gone by to say goodbye yet, but I will.
